After creating my study models, 1/16 scale site plan, and 1/32 scale site with models, I have documented them and looked over them together. The large image is a Photoshop image I created from documenting my 1/32 model and deciding that the model was not capturing all that I was imagining. So, I layered the photo with trees, planters for the community garden, roadways/parking, and a fountain. I decided these were the most important pieces of my site design. I selected three types of trees to display that are native to South Carolina - Red Maple, Palmetto Palm, and River Birch. I noticed that the Palmetto Palm tree was popular around Columbia when we visited, especially in the downtown area. I selected the Red Maple to provide color to the site. The River Birch is a great shade tree, so I used it the most in my site design, especially around the paved areas for vehicles. I will be next selecting specific 'hardscape' materials, low height vegetation, and planning where building doorways will be in order to further develop my site design.
